The IP1553-1 is a dual redundant MIL-STD-1553 IndustryPack module. Through an appropriate carrier board, the IP1553-1 can provide MIL-STD-1553 capability for a variety of computer platforms, including VMEbus, ISA (PC), NuBus (MAC), etc. When the IP1553-1 is combined with other IndustryPacks (A/D, D/A, digital I/O, synchro, etc.), complex applications can be implemented in a low-cost single-slot solution.
MIL-STD-1553 functionality is provided by a UTMC SµMMIT protocol processor. Once configured by software, the SµMMIT runs autonomously, handling messages without further host intervention. In bus controller mode, frame and message scheduling, frame timing, retries, and exception processing are all programmable and handled automatically. In remote terminal mode, subaddresses and mode codes may be selectively illegalized during initialization. Messages may be buffered in an indexed 256 message buffer or in a ping-pong double buffer on a subaddress-by-subaddress basis. A record of interrupts is maintained in an interrupt log list. Monitor mode records a time-tagged command and data history of bus traffic to/from all or selected terminals.
Software utilities to aid in application development are provided with the IP1553-1. These programs running on a personal computer (MS-DOS®) simplify the initialization of the IP1553-1 by generating SµMMIT code that can be imported into the application.
