The Mx5 Series has a lot in common with our AB2000 Series Embedded Computers. Both combine high performance and lots of options into small, lightweight packages, giving system designers the flexibility to solve difficult problems with less hardware and less cost than ever before.

High performance

Mx5 databus interface cards enable embedded systems to communicate with, simulate, test, and monitor avionics equipment and systems.

These high performance mezzanine cards efficiently manage fully loaded databuses with ease. On-board protocol processors handle all databus activity, freeing the host for application-specific processing. 64 MB ECC (error correction) memory provides generous data storage with a variety of buffering schemes.

High speed host interfaces are achieved with an x4 PCI Express lane with bus mastering on XMC versions and a 32/64-bit, 33/66/133 MHz PCI-X interface on PMC versions. All cards have extensive built-in test (PBIT, CBIT, IBIT).

BTIDriver API

Users can develop their own software applications with the included BTIDriver API for C/C++, C#, VB, VB.Net, and LabVIEW.

With only a few function calls a program can operate an Mx5 and process messages to and from the avionics databuses. Functions include routines for transmitting, receiving, scheduling, recording, time-tagging, and manipulating data. An Mx5 card can use applications developed for other Ballard devices. Code migrates seamlessly from BTIDriver compatible devices or through a translation driver from older Ballard devices.

Letters in red are variable choices from the tables below. Not all possible combinations are available.

HOST PLATFORM (Mx5m/)

Configure part number with desired host options. Substitute the letters below for your choices.
   Example: ME5R/ for XMC, rear panel I/O, conduction cooled

x E = XMC
P = PMC
m R = Rear panel I/O
F = Front panel I/O

MIL-STD-1553 (nf)

For MIL-STD-1553 channels, add this section to the part number. Substitute the letters below for your desired options.
   Example: ME5R/8M for 8 multi function MIL-STD-1553 channels
