Legacy Product

This is a legacy product and should not be specified for new programs. For replacements of this product and for all new applications please consider our other products.

The PC429-2 is a low cost ARINC 429 interface for IBM-PC/AT (ISA) and compatible computers. The PC429-2 can have up to four channels in a customer-specified combination of receive and transmit channels. Each channel operates independently at either high or low speed under the control of an on-board processor. The DOS menu software included with the PC429-2 allows the user to create, transmit, receive and display 429 bus traffic through menus and windows. Alternatively, with the aid of the driver library, software to operate the PC429-2 can be implemented by the user in a variety of languages.

The use of proprietary gate arrays has given the PC429-2 a level of functionality for test applications that goes beyond that possible with off-the-shelf ARINC 429 components developed for flight applications. Our approach maximizes performance and reliability while minimizing the component count and the price. Gate arrays are used for the encoders, decoders and for a unique powerful interface to the host PC. The on-board processor allows the PC429-2 to run without intervention by the host PC. In normal operation the PC429-2 automatically transmits words on transmit channels and continuously receives words on receive channels. The host PC can access specific transmitted or received words by simply writing to or reading from the appropriate memory location. Self test is provided by enabling a wraparound between encoders and decoders.

A special feature of the PC429-2 is its ability to selectively record bus activity along with a time tag. This forms a Sequential Record which can be analyzed later by the user.

CoPilot 429, a powerful graphical program, can be purchased separately or with an ARINC 429 card for additional savings. With this software, users can define and view ARINC 429 data in raw form, engineering units or as virtual controls and instruments. The concurrent monitor saves all or selected messages with time-tags for subsequent processing or analysis.

Alternatively, software developers can use the bundled Application Program Interface (API) that enables quick and easy development of custom applications. Driver software is included for Windows® 95/98/NT/Me/2000.
