Reliable Operation

These rugged cards provide the capability to reliably communicate with and monitor avionics equipment and systems. The family includes models with single and multiple protocols in an assortment of channel counts and functionality. A single card can provide all the avionics functionality needed for most applications.

PE1000 interface cards are easy to install, integrate, and operate. High performance assures maximum data throughput on all channels. With all its capability and versatility, the PE1000 is ideal for a wide range of avionics embedded and test applications.

High Performance

PE1000 interface cards use Ballard's time-tested 5th generation avionics protocol engines with bus mastering and a large 32-MB built-in memory to yield high performance. All models include sixteen avionics level input/output discretes and IRIG time synchronization/generation.

Cost-Effective Solution

There is a wide choice of models — ranging from simple, single-protocol, low channel-count cards to complex, multi-protocol, high channel-count cards. Equivalent models are available in both PCIe/104 and PCI/104-Express. Extended temperature range is standard, and conformal coating is an option. This wide selection allows the most cost effective solution to be used on each application.

BTIDriver™ API

BTIDriver APIUsers can develop their own software applications with the included BTIDriver API:

  • With only a few function calls, a program can operate the PE1000 and process messages to and from the avionics databuses.
  • Functions include routines for transmitting, receiving, scheduling, recording, time-tagging, and manipulating data.
  • With BTIDriver, application code migrates seamlessly to and from other Ballard devices, reducing development time and costs.
  • A translation DLL is included to easily import applications from legacy Ballard products that are not compatible with BTIDriver.
 

Drivers

Driver software is included for Windows®, Linux®, and LabVIEW. Driver software is available for VxWorks® and INTEGRITY®. Contact Ballard for availability of drivers for other operating systems.

Translation DLL

The translation DLL (included) makes it easy to convert applications previously written for other Ballard products to run on this family of products.

PE1000 Ordering Guidelines

The PE1000 Series offers a wide variety of protocols, configurations and options. PE1000 part numbers are created by substituting values from the tables for the red variables. Not all combinations are available—see notes. Contact Ballard Sales for assistance in determining the PE1000 product with the best value and capability for your needs.

"x" Variable - MIL-STD-1553 or ARINC 708

The "x" variable indicates the presence of MIL-STD-1553 or ARINC 708. Substitute the number below corresponding to your desired configuration.
   Example: PE14yz for 2 multi-function 1553 channels

** All models (except ARINC 429 models with "y" variable of "7", "8" or "9") have 4 ports with differential transceivers, which may be used as differential discrete I/O. Each port can be user configured to operate as differential discrete I/O or the protocol specified above using the "z" variable. ARINC 429 models with "y" variable of "7", "8" or "9" are pin-shared and require z = "0" (these models do not include differential discrete I/O).

Additional options are available and are noted at the end of the part number. Contact Ballard Sales for more details.    Example: PE1400/FXY adds conformal coating to a 2-channel MIL-STD-1553 card.

  • PE1451 - MIL-STD-1553 (2 ch), ARINC 429 (12R4T), ARINC 717 (2R2T)
  • PE1451/FXY - Same as above with conformal coating
  • PE1680 - ARINC 708 (2R2T), ARINC 429 (16R4T) - last variable must be "0" for this configuration
  • PE1061/FXY/PCI - ARINC 429 (8R8T), ARINC 717 (2R2T), conformal coating, PCI pass-through connector
